Widespread Internet outage affecting Central New York school districts - syracuse.com

A widespread Internet outage is affecting several school districts, interrupting online classes Tuesday.

Liverpool, Jamesville-DeWitt, Fayetteville-Manlius, Onondaga, Auburn and Central Square school districts are among those reporting outages. Liverpool school officials said the problem started mid-afternoon. Others also are affected.

Central New York Regional Information Center (CNYRIC), which provides Internet access to 49 school districts in this region, attributed the problem to Internet service providers' outages in the Northeast.

Spectrum officials said there are no widespread outages, and said they provide network support to CNYRIC, which offers access to a variety of service providers. The issue appears to be with one of those service providers.

F-M Superintendent Craig Tice said the outage was interrupting some classes being held for remote students.

Several parents posted on social media that their children’s classes stopped midway through, and they couldn’t reconnect to the Internet.

"Our service is working,'' said Lara Pritchard, speaking for Spectrum.

We will update this report as we get more information.
