Iowa counties added to FEMA individual assistance program weeks after derecho
The Office of the Governor announced Tuesday that 10 additional counties will receive individual assistance from FEMA.The announcement comes three weeks after the powerful derecho left large swaths of damage across the state.According to a news release, Benton, Boone, Cedar, Jasper, Marshall, Polk, Poweshiek, Scott, Story and Tama counties can apply for the FEMA Individual Assistance Program. The Individual Assistance Program aids homeowners, renters and businesses in storm recovery, including housing, property replacement and medical expenses.Prior to Tuesday, only Linn County qualified for individual assistance. The Office of the Governor said counties were individual assistance is approved can no longer access the Iowa Individual Assistance Grant Program.Residents in the 11 approved counties can apply for individual assistance online at DisasterAssistance.gov, or by phone at 800-621-3362.
