CONNECTICUT — Gov. Ned Lamont announced more than $33 million in state and federal aid to provide rental, mortgage and landlord assistance for some people financially impacted by the coronavirus pandemic.

"The COVID crisis has taken a toll on many Connecticut families," Lamont said. "We know that some renters and homeowners are having a hard time paying the costs of their housing. It's critical that we provide emergency help so that they can stay housed, and to support residential landlords, many of who are mom-and-pop small businesses themselves."

The assistance includes:

  • $10 million in rental assistance for people financially impacted by the pandemic with a priority on lower-income households that were denied unemployment benefits.
  • $5 million for eviction prevention.
  • $10 million for mortgage relief for homeowners whose mortgages aren't federally insured.
  • $4 million in rapid rehousing funds to help pay for costs like security deposits.
  • $2.5 million for those not eligible for emergency assistance through the CARES Act, including the undocumented.
  • $1.8 million in aid for reentry assistance for those exiting incarceration.

Lamont is also extending the residential eviction moratorium through Aug. 25, which brings it in line with the CARES Act which prevents most evictions through the late summer.
