iPhone 13 Lineup Appears to Feature Significantly Larger Battery Capacities - MacRumors

doro.indah.link

A new rumor from Weibo, shared on Twitter by credible leaker l0vetodream, alleges to be the battery capacities for the upcoming iPhone 13 lineup, revealing that all of the 2021 iPhones will feature larger batteries.

iPhone 13 Battery Life Feature
According to the rumor, the ‌iPhone 13‌ Pro Max will feature a 4352mAh battery, compared to the current iPhone 12 Pro Max's 3687mAh battery. The ‌iPhone 13‌ and ‌iPhone 13‌ Pro will share a battery of 3095mAh, compared to 2815mAh. The smallest model of the lineup, the ‌iPhone 13‌ mini, will feature a 2406mAh battery, compared to the iPhone 12 mini's 2227mAh.

With iPhone devices, the size of the battery only tells a portion of a device's battery story. The other half comes down to the efficiency of the A-series chip and other components. The A15 chip, expected in the ‌iPhone 13‌, will improve energy efficiency on top of the larger battery. While the higher-end models of the 2021 ‌iPhone‌ lineup will feature larger batteries, so will the smallest ‌iPhone 13‌ mini, according to this rumor.

The ‌iPhone 12 mini‌, which is the smallest ‌iPhone‌ Apple has made to date, has performed poorly in sales compared to the other models. One reason may be the smaller battery in the device, leading to struggling all-day battery life. However, Apple seems to be set to address those concerns if this rumor proves to be true.

The larger batteries will also help accommodate the rumored inclusion of a ProMotion 120Hz display in the ‌iPhone 13‌ Pro and ‌iPhone 13‌ Pro Max. Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has stated that Apple plans to include the ProMotion technology in the highest-end models of the lineup. Compared to the current peak 60Hz, a 120Hz display will use more battery.

Schematics of the upcoming ‌iPhone 13‌ lineup seen by MacRumors indicated that the 2021 iPhones will be thicker in design. Thanks to this rumor, the increase in thickness seem to be due to the larger battery capacities.

Samsung M7 review: 4K monitor, PC or TV? You decide - The Indian Express

doro.indah.link

Over the past year or so, I too have been working from home, and my room has been converted into an office space. Given the fact that the coronavirus is here to stay a little longer than expected and working from home is the only option in the short term, I have been thinking of investing in a monitor. While I was scouting for a premium monitor for my Mac Mini, Samsung approached me to review its latest Smart  Monitor M7. I thought it would be a regular 4K monitor perfect for work and play. But the M7 was more than a plain display. Samsung calls the M7 a “smart monitor” that doubles as a smart TV with built-in apps like Netflix and Apple Music. The monitor also comes with the option to use Office 365 if you don’t have a computer. But why would people pay Rs 57,000 for Samsung’s high-end M7 monitor, in the first place?

Here are my thoughts on the TizenOS-powered Samsung Smart Monitor M7.

Samsung Smart Monitor M7 review: Display and build

The Samsung Smart Monitor M7 looks just like a computer monitor — an understated design, featuring thin bezels framing a 32-inch screen. The monitor’s uncluttered look easily blends with the interiors of my room. Even though the M7 is a modern-day computer monitor, it looks much like a small TV. You can keep the M7 in a bedroom, kids’ room, or in a secondary living room.

Setting up the Smart Monitor M7 is easy. All you need to do is attach the base to the stand with a single screw, and then hook it up to the back of the TV. The entire process takes less than 10 minutes. There’s also an option to mount the monitor to a wall. While the monitor tilts forward and backward, it lacks the option to adjust the height or change the orientation of the screen. Thankfully, the M7 ships with a TV remote, which makes it easy to navigate the smart TV interface.

You can run movie streaming like Netflix and Amazon Prime Video directly on the device. (Image credit: Anuj Bhatia/Indian Express)

The port selection is serviceable: a USB-C port and two HDMI ports, including one that supports ARC for connecting a soundbar. Plus, there are three USB-A ports on the back of the monitor for using accessories. The monitor also supports Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. Unfortunately, it lacks support for HDMI 2.1 which is capable of supporting higher video resolutions including 4K content at 120 frames per second (fps) and Dolby Vision HDR. The speakers on this monitor are average, while I don’t call them disappointing, they seem fine for YouTube videos or streaming a movie on Netflix.

Samsung Smart Monitor M7 review: Display and image quality

The M7 has a 32-inch display with a native resolution of 3,840 x 2,160 pixels and a 16:9 aspect ratio. There’s nothing to scream about the display though it can produce sharp images. In fact, this display isn’t bad for browsing, productivity work, or video watching.

During my testing, it was a pleasure to watch Please Like Me on Netflix. The monitor showed vivid colours and had a good dynamic range. Colours seemed fine, while the text looked crisp. Notably, Samsung lets you change the settings of the monitor between Standard, Natural, and a Game mode while there are Ultrawide Game View, Movie, and Filmmaker options too. I really liked the Filmmaker mode, which basically fine-tunes the image and brings realism to the movies.

I mostly connected the M7 to my Mac Mini and Nintendo Switch, but you can pair any Windows PC or Chromebook. It also supports HDR10, which is really nice when using the monitor’s native Netflix app.

The Smart Monitor M7 is aimed at casual users who want a premium monitor for home use, but it would have been nice if the monitor supported higher refresh rates. The M7 caps at a maximum 60Hz, meaning if you own a PS5 or Xbox Series X, you won’t be able to enjoy games at 120fps.

Samsung Smart Monitor M7 review: Smart features and apps

But what makes the M7 different from popular 4K monitors with high refresh rates are the built-in apps. That means you can use Samsung’s Smart Monitor M7 as a standalone device — no need to hook a computer to stream a movie on Amazon Prime Video or listen to the latest pop songs on Apple Music. Every major app – Netflix, Apple TV+, YouTube, Zee5, and more – is baked in the monitor. This is all possible due to Tizen — the same smart operating system that powers Samsung’s smart TVs. The advantage of a native Netflix app or Amazon Prime Video is that I don’t have to open a web browser on my PC, load the app, and stream the content. I can easily stream the content from whichever app I am subscribed to and control the playback of movies using the remote control of the monitor. The easy-to-use remote control also includes a Bixby voice assistant. Not to forget, the Smart monitor M7 also supports AirPlay 2 which offers wireless streaming of content through the iPhone, iPad, or Mac.

Samsung’s Smart Monitor M7 gives you access to Office 365 apps. (Image credit: Anuj Bhatia/Indian Express)

How can the Smart Monitor M7 not come with Samsung-exclusive features? Well, the M7 supports Samsung Dex which turns your Samsung Galaxy smartphone into a PC. I was not able to test this feature as I had no access to Samsung’s newer flagship smartphones at the time of testing this monitor. Then there is also the option to use Microsoft’s Office 365 apps such as Word and Powerpoint if you don’t have access to the computer on the spot. Of course, you need to subscribe to Office 365 to use all of the standalone office apps.

Samsung Smart Monitor M7 review: Should you buy it?

The Samsung Smart Monitor M7 offers astounding value for what it does. If you have plans to upgrade a premium monitor for home use, you can definitely check out Samsung’s newest offering. Built-in apps and the ability to mirror your smartphone to smart monitor work in favour of the Smart Monitor M7. That said, the M7 does not target creative professionals or those who just got next-gen consoles from Sony and Microsoft. This monitor is better suited for people who have recently moved to compact apartments and are looking for one display that works both as a monitor and smart TV.

This new iPhone 13 leak is terrific news for Apple fans - Yahoo Entertainment

doro.indah.link

A series of reports said earlier this week that several companies in Apple’s iPhone supply chain have started manufacturing parts for the iPhone 13 series. Among them is well-known chipmaker TSMC that manufactures the A-series and M-series chips for the iPhone, iPad, and Mac. Those reports seemed to suggest that Apple is looking to launch the iPhone 13 handsets on time this year, despite the ongoing pandemic and chip shortage. Still, the reports said there are no guarantees that Apple will launch the iPhone 13 phones during the usual September timeframe. Apple unveiled the iPhone 12 phones in mid-October, about a month later than usual, and the handsets hit stores in two waves in late October and early November. Manufacturing issues and travel delays are the oft-cited reasons that reportedly forced Apple to postpone its iPhone 12 launch event and release dates.

A new report from Korea says that Samsung and LG have independently begun producing a key component that will be found in all iPhone 13 models, the OLED screen. But it’s Samsung that’s reportedly tasked with making the most exciting iPhone 13 component this year, and the company has now reportedly begun to manufacture this crucial component for Apple. This is a huge indication that the iPhone 13 will be released on time in September this year, and it’s definitely the news we’ve been waiting to hear.

The iPhone 13 phones will be almost identical to current iPhone 12 models, various leaks have claimed. We’re looking at the same height and width dimensions for all iPhone 13 models compared to their respective predecessors, but the new versions will be slightly thicker. The notch will be narrower, and the rear camera modules will take up more space since they’re all rumored to feature a larger sensor — the sensor-shift camera found on the iPhone 12 Pro Max.

All four iPhone 13 handsets will have OLED panels, just like their predecessors. These are the components that Samsung and LG have started manufacturing earlier than usual. But Samsung will make the OLED screens inside the iPhone 13 Pro models, which will support dynamic refresh rates of up to 120Hz.

Apple has long been rumored to bring the 120Hz ProMotion tech it uses on the iPad Pro to the iPhone, as most Android flagships feature high refresh rate displays. Some iPhone 12 models were supposed to feature 120Hz displays, but Apple scrapped the feature because the screen consumed too much power. At least that’s what rumors said last year.

This year’s rumors say the iPhone 13 Pro and Pro Max will feature LTPO OLED panels, which offer support for a dynamic refresh rate. That means the refresh rate will vary depending on what’s shown on the screen to conserve battery life. Korean website The Elec, which reported that Samsung and LG have kicked off iPhone 13 OLED production, also mentions LTPO screens:

Samsung is the sole supplier of low-temperature polycrystalline oxide (LTPO) thin-film transistor (TFT) OLED panels, which supports 120Hz refresh rate. Apple is planning to use LTPO TFT OLED for the two top tier models. LG Display will be supplying low-temperature polycrystalline silicon (LTPS) TFT OLED panel for the two lower tier models.

The report says that Samsung will provide between 120 million and 130 million OLED panels to Apple for models including iPhone 12, iPhone 13, and other models. LG will provide up to 50 million OLED panels to Apple. The report notes that production has started a month earlier than the iPhone 12 last year at Samsung and LG at Apple’s request. Sources said to be familiar with the matter told the Korean paper that Apple is looking to avoid another iPhone launch delay by securing key components now.

Delays or not, the iPhone 12 has sold incredibly well so far compared to Android flagships. That’s in spite of the pandemic’s effect on smartphone sales. The iPhone 13 is also expected to drive huge demand later this year.

Report: Initial iPhone 12 sales out-performed iPhone 11 - 9to5Mac

doro.indah.link

A new report claims that iPhone 12 installed base increased by 2% in Q1 2021 compared to the iPhone 11 in Q1 2020. The “installed base” is the number of units of a product actually in use, and it’s not part of Apple’s strategic focus.

According to Counterpoint research, comparing the Q1 2021 iPhone installed base with the Q1 2020 shows initial sales of the iPhone 12 series were better than the iPhone 11 models: 16% against 15%.

The research notes that “the 12 series’ release date was one month later than that for the iPhone 11 series. Further, the iPhone 12 series also competes with the low-tier iPhone SE 2020.”

One generation old models’ share in this data also shows that the iPhone 11 series’ performance was better than the XS series. The iPhone 11 series performed well not only in its early days after launch but also maintained the momentum for a considerable period after the iPhone 12 series launch. The XS series accounted for 21% of the installed base in Q1 2020, but the iPhone 11 series accounted for 25% in Q1 2021, showing a 4% points difference.

Counterpoint says the Pro models also saw an increase YoY. In Q1 2020, the iPhone 11 Pro models accounted for 44% of the installed base, while the iPhone 12 Pro models account for 54% in Q1 2021. Even with the 12 and Mini competition, the Pro and Pro Max models were more popular.

In another report, Counterpoint said this iPhone was the best-selling 5G phone in October:

There is a large pent-up demand for 5G upgrade, especially within the iOS base, which is now getting converted into sales. This was complemented by strong carrier promos, especially in the US, which accounted for over one-third of the iPhone 12 and 12 Pro sales for the month. All carriers were offering the iPhone 12 for $0 through a mix of the trade-in and unlimited plans.

China and Japan also saw strong initial demand for the 12 series. Compared to most of the other 5G models, which have a regional presence, the iPhone 12 has a wider market coverage – it is available in over 140 countries, thus helping sales.

Samsung's 120Hz LTPO OLED panels for iPhone 13 Pro series are in production - GSMArena.com news - GSMArena.com

doro.indah.link

Samsung has been the main supplier for Apple's iPhone displays for quite some time and thanks to the technological advancements of the Korean tech giant in the field, it was able to secure an order for about 80 million units once more. Or in other words, the expected 120Hz LTPO OLED panels for the iPhone 13 Pro and 13 Pro Max will likely all be delivered by Samsung.

Samsung's 120Hz LTPO OLED panels for iPhone 13 Pro series are in production

It looks like the fast and energy-efficient LPTO OLEDs will make it to the high-end iPhone 13 models only. LG and BOE will fill up the rest of the orders for iPhone 13 and 13 mini OLED displays. LG Display is estimated to ship around 30 million units.

But since the iPhone 12 family won't be discontinued anytime soon, the need for standard OLED panels won't go away. By the end of this year, Samsung will ship 120 million OLED screens, LG Display will secure 50 million panels while BOE will delivery the final 9 million.

The industry sources also point out that this year, the production of OLED panels has started about a month earlier confirming earlier reports that the iPhone 13 will return to the usual September launch.

iOS 14.6 is here: All the ways your iPhone will change when you upgrade - CNET

doro.indah.link

iOS 14.6 gives the iPhone some cool new features.

James Martin/CNET

Apple's iOS 14.6 update arrived earlier in May, about a month after the iPhone-maker's big iOS 14.5 update landed at the end of April. iOS 14.6 appears to be a far smaller update than 14.5 -- which included the ability to unlock your iPhone with Face ID while wearing a maskstop apps from tracking you for advertising purposes and choose from four Siri voices. The new iOS 14.6 includes another way to locate lost AirTags trackers and high-fidelity Apple Music support, as well as bug fixes.

Here's what we know about iOS 14.6 so far. Plus, we're expecting Apple to unveil iOS 15 at its Worldwide Developers Conference in June. We've collected all of the rumors about the upcoming iOS 15 here

Read more: iOS 14.6's best new iPhone features

You can download iOS 14.6 now, even on older iPhones.

Patrick Holland/CNET

How can I download iOS 14.6?

You should get a prompt telling you that iOS 14.6 is now available and asking if you'd like to download it. Or you can do the following:

1. Open the Settings app.

2. Select General.

3. Tap Software Update

Your device will connect to Apple's servers and prompt you to download and install the update. Follow the prompts to complete the installation. When your device reboots, it will be running iOS 14.6. (Check out our full instructions on preparing your phone and downloading iOS 14 here.)

What devices does iOS 14.6 work on?

iOS 14.6 is compatible with all the same devices as iOS 14. Generally, these include the iPhone 6S all the way up through the iPhone 12, along with the iPhone SE and the seventh-gen iPod Touch. For the full list of devices compatible with iOS 14, click here

Sarah Tew/CNET

What new features does iOS 14.6 include?

The latest operating software update is smaller, and is focused on under-the-hood changes. Here's what we've seen in the public beta version of the software.

Add a contact email when your AirTag is in Lost Mode

If you've bought one of Apple's new AirTag tracker devices (here's how to set up your AirTags), you may know that if you lose the item the AirTag is attached to, you can put the tag in Lost Mode and get a notification when it's within range of the Find My network. If someone else finds your AirTag, they can use an iPhone or other NFC-capable device to view your contact number and get in touch with you. The latest version of the iOS 14.6 beta adds the ability to enter a contact email instead of a phone number.

Apple Card Family

iOS 14.6 also marks the launch of Apple Card Family. This addition lets you share your Apple Card with up to five people (aged 13 years or older) in your Family Sharing group. Apple Card Family lets families track expenses, manage spending with the option to add limits and controls, as well as build credit.

Better beta tools

The beta versions of iOS 14.6 included a tool that lets app developers and public beta testers upgrade to an iOS release candidate without removing their developer or beta profile. Before iOS 14.5 went live to the public, developers could choose between upgrading their device to the iOS 14.5 release candidate or to the beta version of iOS 14.6. Under the Software Update menu in Settings, there's a new Also Available section where you can find this option.

Hi-fi support for Apple Music

On May 17, Apple said that in June, it would add support for high-quality, lossless and spatial audio to Apple Music through Dolby Atmos at no additional cost. High-fidelity streaming could help Apple Music compete with Spotify, which in February said it was adding a high-fidelity tier sometime in 2021.

For more, check out how to download iOS 14.5, and some of the best hidden iPhone features we've found in iOS 14. And before you make any OS updates, make sure your iPhone and iPad are ready to do so
